All You Need to Know About Scania's Ethanol Green Bus

Published On Mar 18, 2016By Lisa Pradhan

India is among those countries which contribute heavily for the rise of pollution levels. Bus manufacturing companies like Volvo have already introduced Hybrid buses in India and now it’s time for Scania. At the recently held Make in India Week in Mumbai, Scania showcased its eco-friendly ethanol-run green bus. Scania claims that the bus incorporates cutting edge technology and is going to game-changer for sustainable transportation solution

Here are some of the points that you might like to know about the Green bus:

Sweden is the first country to get this almost two decades ago. In India, the bus was put on a display in the year 2014.

India holds dangerous records when it comes to pollutions levels and the Green bus can help in lowering the pollution levels with low fuel consumption.

This bus would also help the country to cut down its fuel imports by at least INR 2 lakh crores. It is a fact that India imports INR 6 lakh crore worth of oil from Middle East every year and with alternative fuel, these imports can be reduced significantly.

Uttar Pradesh, Maharastra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu states are the ones to benefit most as they produce ethanol in large quantities.

This bus would help to meet BJP government's target to achieve a 20 percent ethanol-petrol mix by 2017. Till now, Maruti Suzuki and Honda are the only manufacturers to build their automotive with E10 (10 percent ethanol added to petrol).

The key stats look appealing, but the major drawback is its expensive price tag of INR 1.13 crore excluding taxes. Let’s hope that something is done from the administration to promote these kind of automotive innovations to improve our pollution standards.
