Ashok Leyland Plans to Setup Manufacturing Plant in Machakos

Just recently, we reported about Ashok Leyland's intentions about setting up two new plants in Africa, especially in the region of Kenya. Now, as expected, Indian firm has selected Machakos region as an ideal place for setting up the assembly plant. The Governor of Machakos, Kenya has released an official statement in this regard announcing the Ashok Leyland's investment in the region.

“The company will start investing approximately sh 2.04 billion in the next few weeks. The plant will be its regional operations hub for in East and Central Africa,” said Mutua Governor of Machakos. He also said that several meetings and consultations took place with the truck maker at the Ras Al Khaimar office in United Arab Emirates.

Meetings in United Arab Emirates office were a continuation to the previous meetings held in Machakos between the government officials and Ashok Leyland management.

Delighted with the deal, Mutua feels optimistic and hopes that it will create thousands of jobs directly and indirectly to its people. Besides, he also feels that the company would help in training the youth to develop their skills.

“This is very exciting venture because it offers quick gains to my people of Machakos. The company will employ people of various skills such as fitters, administrators, marketers, painters, electricians, mechanics, drivers, welders, and finance officers, among many others.” said Mutua.

The Governor of Machakos has urged support from the countries leaders to help achieve a tangible change for the region that would assure jobs and growth.
