China’s Transit Elevated Buses Goes into Production

Published On Jul 07, 2016By Prashant Talreja

Revealed in May at China- Beijing International High Tech Expo, the Transit Elevated Buses (TEB) finally entered the production line with trial run slated in August. Regarded as one of the most innovative passenger transport solutions, it gazed many eyes and hailed the concept. The most amazing feature is when it straddles on the road and allows smaller vehicles underneath it.

It not only solves the traffic jam issues, but is very cost-effective and non pollutant as well. To be run on all electric motors only, it’ll be 22 meter long, 7.8 wide and 4.8 meter high in dimensions. Also, if everything goes as planned, the TEB is expected to carry a maximum of 1,200 passengers at a decent speed of 60 km/h. However, the structure would make it look like a train running on the road with four cars connected to it.

The chief engineer of TEB, Mr. Song Youzhou said, “it'll be partly made of glass to make it feel more open, and it will be able to carry 1200 people at 60km/h despite the massive size.” He further added, “implementing a Beijing-wide system of elevated buses will cost five times less than building an equivalent subway.”
