IBM’s 3-D Printed Mini-Bus Olli to Hit Washington Roads Soon

Published On Jun 20, 2016By Prashant Talreja

IBM, one of the foremost IT firms globally, has now decided to soak its feet into the automobile sector. The tech giant has joined the crusade against increasing city pollution by offering a self-driving electric mini-bus Olli. Keeping its tech DNA alive, IBM has chosen the 3-D printing path to build a bus, which is one of its kind in the segment. The company has plans to make Olli hit the Washington, DC roads soon enough followed by Las Vegas and Miami later in the year.

Displayed at National Harbor, Maryland, it’s assembled by Local Motors, which held an exuberant opening for both, the vehicle and the facility. The bus has a capacity to carry around 12 people at once. IBM has incorporated the artificial intelligence platform ‘Watson Internet of Things’ (IoT) to make the passenger experience better and help the vehicle interact with commuters. Oilli will also guide its occupants about popular restaurants and places around on the basis of preference and data while talking to them on their way.

Mr. John B. Rogers, CEO and Co-Founder, Local Motors, said, “Olli offers a smart, safe and sustainable transportation solution that is long overdue. Olli with Watson acts as our entry into the world of self-driving vehicles, something we’ve been quietly working on with our co-creative community for the past year. We are now ready to accelerate the adoption of this technology and apply it to nearly every vehicle in our current portfolio and those in the very near future. I’m thrilled to see what our open community will do with the latest in advanced vehicle technology.”
