JBM to Supply 'Tilting' Buses with Easier Mounting for Disabled

Published On Mar 08, 2016By Prashant Talreja

The JBM group has stood out in the engineering and manufacturing frontier of the country. The brand has been a regular supplier of buses for state transport agencies. In what is a first for public transport in the country, the company has been issued with the task of making buses specially designed for the easier functioning of handicapped people.

The company will be designing and putting together the buses, before handing them over to the Maharashtra-based MP Group. The MP Group had ordered about 100 of these specially designed buses to drive in the Noida region in the coming months.

The buses will be built on a unique template, with a mild lean towards one side that makes it easier for those in wheelchairs to board it. It is reported that JBM will be finalizing the design of the buses on technology roped in from countries abroad, specifically Italy. “We ordered the buses from the JBM group, which assembled the buses here, using design and technology imported from Italy,” Abhishek Pathak, Managing Director of the MP Group revealed.

Mr Pathak also said, “These buses can tilt entirely on one side so that a person in wheelchair can get in. This is the first time in India that we will see such a bus. Each bus will have 34-38 seats.” The buses will run on CNG (compressed natural gas), and there will be a smart ticker issuing system installed for easier operations and lesser hassle for the occupants.

If used in a broader scale, the new bus system would make public transport accessible to nearly 26 million more people in the country.
