World’s one of the most renowned commercial vehicle manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has gotten an order of 82 Natural Gas Technology (NGT) based buses from Madrid municipal transporter, EMT. The complete order will get EMT 40 Citaro natural gas backed articulated buses and 42 natural gas powered rigids with respective length of 18 and 12 meters. The Citaro buses will be boosted by 7.7 litre M-Benz 936 G natural gas motor which weighs only 747 kgs and is currently the most compact engine in its class.

Meant for city transportation, low carbon emission and low noise levels are the main factors because of which the company got this deal. EMT Madrid already has 1920 buses under its fleet, carrying over 425 million people in a year while covering almost a million kilometer distance over its 3,600 km network with 10,000 stops.

Hartmut Schick, Head of Daimler Buses said, “Like our Euro VI diesel technology, the new natural-gas drive is an affordable standard-production technology with which this goal can already today be achieved in an economical manner.” With every country now focusing to reduce pollution in the metro cities, these type of buses are definitely a good option for intra-city transport. The company is also hopeful for more orders in future for these buses.
