Scania Delivers Uniquely Designed Bus to Tasmanian Operator

Scania's Tasmanian arm, in collaboration with Australian bus-maker Bustech recently delivered a uniquely-designed bus to operator Tassielink Transit. The vehicle wears a specially tailored design to suit the needs of the company and provide enhanced comfort for the occupants. It features a low-floor access and a sound luggage space, while the comfortable seating arrangement hones the entire experience. The extra-thick bases on the seats guarantee improved comfort, enabling a more relaxed experience for passengers during long drives. Along with this, armrests for the aisle seats also boost the atmosphere.

“You have good capacity for luggage inside the bus, nice seats with grab handles but none of the usual grab bars found on a route bus,” Tassielink Transit managing director Shane Dewsbery said. He added, “Also moving to the semi-low floor means wheelchair lifts are not needed, as the front suspension kneels for roll-on wheelchair access, so the design means the bus can do two jobs really well.”

The body has been incorporated with cameras at the front, interior and rear. Its Scania K 320 UB 4x2 LB chassis makes for good handling and control as well. According to Jamie Atkinson, Scania Bus and Coach new vehicle account manager, the bus's advanced design enables fine quality for a whole range of services.

“We were delighted to be able to deliver a bus to Tassielink’s imaginative specification," said Mr Atkinson. He added, “We worked closely with Bustech and Tassielink throughout the build and delivery process to ensure their specification requirements were met.”

Tassielink will run the bus between the capital city, Hobart and towns beyond, as a part of a tourist service. “We see a lot of backpackers and tourists in this region and local travelers who have bulky loads, but we needed to give passengers in wheelchairs hassle-free access as well,” Tassielink Transit managing director Shane Dewsbery says.

Scania is expecting a second bus of the same specifications from Scania, which will be added to their fleet upon completion.
