Scania Launches New Interlink Coach

Published On May 09, 2016By Lisa Pradhan

Scania recently released an all new bus model, the Interlink High Decker coach. Unlike regular coaches, this model has been strategically enhanced with a higher aisle that enables a lower seating area. The side window is lowered by 10-centimetre for a more convenient occupant experience. Owners can map out the seating arrangement and interior layout, and this also allows them to decide on the length of the bus, available between 11 and 15 metres. A two-axle option is also available, with a length of 13.2 metres.

Scania Interlink wears a tougher body-shell and the company has worked to reduce its weight in comparison to earlier models. The improved body rigidity regulates noise and vibrations during the drive, thereby boosting drive comfort for the occupants.

As for the exterior design, the new model wears the characteristic body format of many other Scania coaches. Ingrid Nilsson Czornyj, (styling team leader for Scania Bus and Coach) confirmed that the new bus has overlapping influences from the company's product range. He said, “In style, it adheres to other Scania buses and coaches and has the characteristics and features of the Scania product range. This is manifested in the exterior styling. The appearance is more contemporary and projects a more exclusive feeling.”

The new model was manufactured at the company's plant at Lahti, Finland. Built on the lines of Scania OmniExpress, the new model enters the company's Interlink range of low, medium and high-deckers. It will be in operation in the latter part of this year.

Harri Kankaanpää, Head of Busbody R&D at Scania, remarked, “I can honestly say that the Scania Interlink HD is one of the best in the market – the details, systems and weight.”
