South Africa Gets Two New MAN Buses

Published On Apr 01, 2016By Lisa Pradhan

South Africa's leading bus and truck manufacturer MAN has introduced two new buses in the country. At the recently held conference of South African Bus Operators Association, MAN has brought two new bus models that are designed for demanding transport applications. The MAN Lion Explorer is one of the two new buses that comes on MAN HB 3 chassis. The company believes that this new bus will cope with the market challenges and will certainly come on top of the others. Powering this new bus is a D 20 engine that is capable of producing 350 hp of maximum power. Assembly and production of the bus, which seats 65, was done at the company's plant situated in Olifantsfontein.

MAN Truck & Bus South Africa made use of the conference to present a CLA chassis, which is produced in India. It is built using a Marco Polo body. As a result of its sturdiness and affordable price range, this vehicle can be used for transportation applications, especially in rural areas. Buses with this CLA chassis comes with an ability to deal with unsurfaced roads. Few months ago, buses with CLA had already proved their efficiency in tough operating conditions

“We are very satisfied with the test results so far. The CLA chassis has therefore proved itself as a product able to support the growth strategy of MAN in sub-equatorial Africa,” said Markus Geyer, CEO MAN Truck & Bus South Africa.

Nearly 400 people have attended the conference held in South Africa. The conference provided an opportunity to know about issues covering public transport sectors at more than 50 stands.
