Tata Delivers Four New AC Buses for BRTS Operations in Amritsar

Published On Dec 16, 2016By Lisa Pradhan

Tata Motors has delivered four new air-conditioned buses for the first phase of the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) operations in Amritsar. The automatic transmission buses were flagged off by Sukhbir Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister, Punjab and are a part of a larger order of 93 Tata buses to be delivered for public transport in the city.

These fully air-conditioned automatic transmission buses are comfortable for both the driver and passengers, and are equipped with BRTS doors, for ease of passenger movement in and out of the bus. The buses have a capacity to handle a total of 80-100 passengers at any given time.

The new buses are equipped with well proven new-generation Tata Cummins ISBe engines, air suspension and multiplex wiring meeting UBS II (Urban Bus specification) as specified by the Government of India. These buses also have higher acceleration of 0.8 m/sec2, cutting down on travel time, thus ensuring shorter trips. A shorter wheel base improves the turning radius, thus making intra-city navigation around sharp turns and bends an easy task.

The On-Bus ITS (Intelligent Transport System) comes with public information system, automatic vehicle location system, security network system, vehicle health monitoring and diagnostics. GPRS enabled connectivity permits the bus to be connected with the control room for live monitoring.

Tata is already running similar air-conditioned, automatic transmission buses for BRTS operations in Ahmedabad and Raipur.
