Whats Unique About Tata's New Hybrid Bus?

Tata's Starbus had found the spotlight recently, with an order for 25 of these placed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Authority. Developed solely by the company, the hybrid vehicle comes with a promise of an emission-clean, environmental friendly drive. The bus also brings strong benefits to the owner in terms of cost, with considerable fuel saving as well. About one third of the distance run by the model is powered by electricity.

The bus is equipped with a rechargeable battery, while a brake energy regeneration system further enhances efficiency. Integrated within it is a wide array of sophisticated systems, from GPS, ITS (Intelligence Transport Systems) and even CCT camera for improved security.

On the design front, the vehicle sets itself apart from conventional models. Tata has incorporated its sound expertise in the auto field for the shaping of the vehicle. Its broad design makes for a more impressive, masculine touch, while the sharp outline brings a more stylish blueprint. Its integrated lights at the front and rear come along with LEDs, enhancing visibility when driving. The single-deck design comprises of two rigid sections connected by a pivoting joint.

Safety and stability are reinforced with the electronically controlled full air suspension. Drive programs such as the electronic braking system lighten the experience for the driver, while at the same time, boost ride security. The vehicle can reach a top speed of 70kmph, bringing transport that is safe, efficient and reliable.

Delving into the interiors of the Tata Starbus Hybrid, there are a vast number of aspects that set the bus on a higher plane when compared to conventional models. It has pneumatically operated in-swing and out-swing flat doors that enable ease of functioning for passengers. Its floor height is low at 400mm. The full electronic suspension system and automatic level control allow this to be brought down to 340mm, allowing senior citizens to enter and exit the vehicle without hassle. A total of 32 large, cushioned seats are spread over the interior. The experience is honed even further with many comfort aids such as Wi-Fi on board, USB charging ports and an automatic fare collection system. All of this and more make this vehicle the face of the transport industry's future.
